Energy efficiency solutions
Social trends, economic realities and regulatory demands are driving significant growth and sophistication of demand side management (DSM) and energy efficiency (EE) programs. Such programs have become mission-critical endeavors with far-reaching environmental and societal implications. Selecting the right partner significantly affects how vision becomes reality. CGI brings a proven and unique approach to its DSM/EE offering.
- Deep industry expertise and solid understanding of DSM and EE programs
- Experience working with key stakeholders, regulators and vendors
- Broad business process and technical expertise
- Robust framework
- Nearly 10 years of successful system development and implementation experience
These factors combined help organizations build the most comprehensive and robust systems for enhanced tracking and management of demand side management and energy efficiency programs. As a result, clients better contribute to reducing energy consumption, meeting portfolio targets and addressing government regulations, while improving customer service.
Benefits of CGI’s DSM/EE framework
Organizations are challenged with creating a DSM/EE solution that meets the regulatory, business and technical requirements unique to each jurisdiction, utility and IT environment. With constantly changing variables, clients require a flexible and adaptable solution. Yet a commercial, off-the-shelf solution requires considerable customization and compromises, and the time required to design and build a complete solution from the ground increases both cost and risk.
CGI’s proprietary DSM/EE framework overcomes these challenges. Built from deep industry knowledge and technology know-how, it includes the essential building blocks - process flows, data models, design templates and reference architectures - to meet your unique needs and enable a faster time to market. Provided as a custom-tailored solution with the maturity of an off-the-shelf commercial product, the toolkit allows clients to benefit from flexible, field-proven functionality. The four key factors that make up CGI’s DSM/EE framework include:
- Focus - designed and developed through industry knowledge and DSM/EE tracking specifications, and continually enhanced through a broad client portfolio
- Process - default requirement templates and use case inventories and proven processes for accelerated business process design to increase flexibility and efficiency
- Technology - proven and mainstream enterprise grade technology and best-of-breed approach to facilitate integration with client systems via open IT standards
- Component - interface-driven and client-specific implementation approach supported by an open and extensible DSM/EE reference architecture and baseline logical data model
The framework is complemented by CGI’s end-to-end services - including systems integration and consulting, application development and maintenance and hosting services - to enable fully managed, turnkey solutions.
CGI’s energy efficiency solutions in action
CGI’s energy efficiency solutions provide immediate value, bringing best practices and lessons learned from prior DSM/EE implementations with clients such as National Grid, NSTAR Electric and Gas, and Consumers Energy. Representative client experience includes:
NSTAR, the largest Massachusetts-based, investor-owned electric and gas utility with more than 1 million electric customers in 81 communities and 300,000 gas customers in 51 communities, turned to CGI for the design, implementation and management of a high-quality energy efficiency programs tracking application. Features of the NSTAR-CGI partnership include business process reengineering, requirements gathering and functional design, technical and architecture design, development from CGI’s onsite and offshore global delivery centers, and functional and technical enhancements and application support services.
CGI’s delivery team was extremely effective in delivering a high-quality application that is now managing our energy efficiency programs. Transitioning application management services to CGI was the logical next step given their extensive experience in application management outsourcing for Fortune 500 and Global 2000 companies.
Gene Zimon, Chief Information Officer, NSTAR
Consumers Energy, one of the largest combination of U.S. utilities providing electric and natural gas service to nearly 6.5 million Michigan residents, sought an end-to-end enterprise energy optimization tracking system to effectively manage its energy optimization portfolio through the entire lifecycle, hosting and management services. Features of its partnership with CGI included a web-based user interface to streamline business processes, workflow management to track project tasks from the initial customer contact through to project completion, and bulk data upload for third parties and flexible data reporting and extract capabilities.
Through our relationship with CGI, we successfully launched our energy optimization tracking system within record time. CGI’s extensive technical knowledge and experience in energy efficiency programs play a crucial role in supporting these programs.
