A modern billing platform gives the Finnish electricity cooperative more control, faster exception handling and better visibility across the entire invoicing process.
CGI delivered a modern billing solution for Jylhän Sähköosuuskunta, enabling multichannel invoice delivery, payment reminders, invoice tracking and archiving. The new solution has strengthened control over the billing process while significantly improving the speed and efficiency of handling exceptions.
Jylhän Sähköosuuskunta is a local electricity company serving approximately 6,500 customers in the Kauhava and Kortesjärvi regions of Finland. In 2025, the cooperative partnered with CGI to modernize its billing operations, improve process management and ensure that the solution supports both customer service and day-to-day business operations.
"We wanted a partner with whom collaboration would be seamless and whose support services are based in Finland. If an issue arises with electricity billing, we need a fast response whenever our own IT team cannot resolve it." Marianne Jylhä, Finance Administration, Jylhän Sähköosuuskunta
Extending the partnership to customer billing
Jylhän Sähköosuuskunta had already been using CGI's purchase invoice reception services. As part of this modernization initiative, the partnership expanded to include customer billing and payment reminder management.
The company sends between 5,500 and 7,000 invoices every month, making reliability, efficiency and operational visibility essential.
The CGI solutions supports:
- Multichannel invoice delivery
- Payment reminder management
- End-to-end invoice tracking
- Electronic archiving
- Improved monitoring and reporting across the entire billing process
The new platform provides significantly greater visibility into billing activities while simplifying day-to-day operations.
Resolving billing exceptions faster
One of the greatest benefits has been the ability to resolve billing exceptions much more quickly.
The new solution gives the team more flexibility when billing information changes close to invoicing. Staff can resolve exceptions without restarting the billing process, helping them handle corrections more efficiently.
"The solution delivered by CGI has significantly accelerated how we handle exceptions. If, for example, a customer's e-invoice agreement has been canceled and the information was not updated before the invoice was sent, we can quickly redirect the invoice to another channel without restarting the entire process." Marianne Jylhä, Finance Administration, Jylhän Sähköosuuskunta
As a result, billing exceptions are now resolved two to three days faster, on average. Tasks that previously required an entire working day can now typically be completed within just a couple of hours.
Gaining visibility across the billing process
Beyond improving efficiency, the new solution gives the organization a comprehensive view of billing performance.
Instead of reviewing invoices one by one, employees can now monitor the entire billing process and access reporting that supports operational decision-making.
The improved visibility also reduced the need for support requests and internal coordination.
Previously, resolving a billing issue often involved lengthy support ticket chains and multiple employees. Today, most issues can be resolved quickly with the involvement of no more than two employees.
The implementation itself was equally successful, supported by clear guidance and a structured onboarding process from CGI that enabled a smooth transition to the new solution.
Benefits delivered
- Modernized customer billing with reliable multichannel delivery
- Improved end-to-end visibility of billing operations
- Reduced exception handling times by an average of two to three days
- Simplified billing corrections, reducing work from a full day to only a few hours
- Decreased the number of support requests and the need for manual coordination
- Strengthened operational efficiency and customer service
Previously, we could only review individual invoices, not the overall process. Today, we can immediately see, for example, how many invoices were sent as e-invoices during the previous month. This allows us to verify that every invoice has been delivered and archived correctly.
