Responding to the need for data-led operational modernization
EDP set out to accelerate the digital transformation of its conventional generation business in Portugal and Spain. To modernize operations and improve efficiency, the organization recognized data as a strategic asset: one the organization needed to govern, trust and make accessible across the business to support smarter decision-making and future innovation.
However, disparate data sources, limited data governance and growing demands for intelligent asset management made it difficult to fully leverage data at scale. EDP needed a unified, strategic approach that could support operational performance today while enabling analytics- and AI-driven innovation tomorrow.
Establishing a unified vision for governed, trusted data
Together with CGI, EDP launched the Datahub GEN initiative to create a robust, governed and intelligent data ecosystem. Delivered under Agile Managed Services, the program focused on laying strong technological, methodological and cultural foundations, ensuring data could be trusted, shared and used consistently across domains.
The initiative followed a clear modernization vision: improve operational efficiency, enable intelligent asset management and embed a data-driven culture across teams.
Delivering a scalable, enterprise data ecosystem
Datahub GEN combines three strategic pillars to turn data into operational value:
- Data governance We worked with EDP to implement a clear governance structure using their governance tool, with documented and certified data, defined ownership and formal roles. As part of this effort, 77 Data Owners and Stewards were appointed to ensure accountability and consistency.
- Transversal data availability A modern data infrastructure enables broad access to reliable, secure data across domains. The platform now covers 24 subdomains across four business areas, providing a shared foundation for enterprise-wide insight.
- Business visibility The teams developed intelligent, actionable applications and dashboards based on real business needs and use cases. The initiative delivered 48 dashboards and reports to support operational and strategic decision-making.
A dedicated Change Management stream helped ensure organizational adoption and alignment through structured communication, documentation and comprehensive training initiatives.
Turning data into a trusted operational asset
The Datahub GEN platform established a Single Source of Truth (SSOT), empowering teams with consistent, secure and accessible data. More than 300 data entities were structured across bronze, silver and gold layers, supported by 1,367 Business Glossary entries and 2,348 Data Dictionary entries.
These foundations enable EDP to promote a data-driven, intelligent asset management strategy and unlock efficiencies while supporting development of analytics- and AI-based solutions.
