Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO), a leading community-owned service provider has selected CGI Group Inc., (CGI) (TSX: GIB.A; NYSE: GIB;), a global leader in information technology (IT) and business process services, to deliver an integrated Outage Management Solution (OMS), geographic information system (GIS) and electronic staking application. As part of this agreement, CGI will assume responsibility of the project's implementation to allow SMECO to efficiently monitor and control distribution operations while providing a superior vehicle to manage its service restoration.

CGI has partnered with leading utility solution providers to ensure that SMECO obtains state-of-the-art and field proven solutions along with expert and varied resources to ensure a successful implementation. The integrated turnkey solution includes the system integration of CGI's PragmaLINE OMS, Miner & Miner's ESRI-based enterprise solution of ArcFM, Designer, Network Adapter and Conduit Manager and MESA Solutions' legacy GIS data migration and systems integration expertise.

"This is a major step forward for SMECO in providing the best customer service possible," said Kenneth Capps, Vice President of Engineering & Operations. "We realize accurate data is critical to the success of these systems and the CGI team brings this expertise as well as the vision of a complete real-time solution to yield important business and operational benefits for SMECO."

François Ouzilleau, CGI's Utility Solutions Vice President of Business Development & Consulting Services added: "We are pleased to welcome SMECO as a new client. Our goal is to work together with our partners to streamline SMECO's operations ultimately resulting in improved system reliability, controlled costs, and shortened duration of restoration efforts."

Jeff Meyers, President of Miner & Miner said: "The ArcFM Enterprise Solution allows SMECO to leverage industry-leading ESRI GIS functionality to bring significant business benefits to their organization."

"ESRI is very pleased to be part of the CGI team at SMECO," states Bill Meehan, ESRI Director of Utility Solutions. "The SMECO enterprise GIS deployment complements CGI's PragmaLINE outage management solution and is representative of the growing trend in rural electric cooperatives towards improved operational efficiency and customer service through the use of spatial technology."

Mark Varenhorst, Vice President of MESA Solutions highlighted: "This partnership enables us to join forces with industry leaders to take SMECO swiftly through the complex legacy GIS migration, integration, and validation processes."

SMECO's turnkey solution will also integrate to other operations applications, including a work management system (WMIS) from LogicaCMG to support design initiation, closing and job status updates, SynerGEE's application from Advantica to support engineering analysis of the GIS network and Severn Trent Systems CIS/OV for initial and incremental load of customer data.
