Fairfax, Virginia, October 22, 2008

CGI Group, Inc., (NYSE: GIB; TSX: GIB.A) announced today that, as a member of the CareSpark team, it successfully demonstrated the team’s ability to securely exchange health data over a Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN). The demonstration took place as part of the Nationwide Health Information Network Trial Implementation, for which CareSpark was one of nine community health information exchanges to be awarded funding nearly one year ago.

CGI provided information technology and interoperability design and support for CareSpark’s network in two demonstration scenarios conducted before a group of national healthcare leaders in attendance at a meeting of the American Health Information Community (AHIC), chaired by Michael Leavitt, Secretary of Health and Human Services, in Washington, D.C.

The CGI-CareSpark team collaborated in demonstrating two critical scenarios. In the “Wounded Warrior” scenario, the capability of physicians caring for a discharged veteran to request and view patient records available from the Department of Defense, the Veterans Administration, as well as other private hospitals and physician’s practices over the Web showcased the accessibility of patient information in a time of need.

In the second scenario, CareSpark showed how the network can protect patient data and deny access based on a patient’s consent preference. CGI and CareSpark contributed significantly to the collaborative development of these standards-based services that underpin the NHIN interoperability.

“These demonstrations show that with the right technology partners, public and private organizations can overcome the challenges of securely exchanging patient data and drive advancements in healthcare across the nation”, said Rich Martin, Vice-President, CGI. “We are proud to be a member of the CareSpark team and honored to partner with them in advancing the national healthcare agenda.

“As the lead systems and data integrator on our team, CGI partnered with us and other NHIN collaborative members to solve many implementation issues in a short amount of time to meet the goals of this important national initiative”, said Liesa Jenkins, Executive Director of CareSpark. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with CGI on this important national project.”
