Accelerating secure decision-making and collaboration across NATO with AI

In a rapidly evolving security environment, NATO must process vast volumes of classified information and coordinate securely across multinational commands. As operational complexity increases, the speed at which information is analyzed and shared can directly influence mission effectiveness. At the same time, secure communications must extend beyond fixed infrastructure to support distributed and mobile operations.

Digital modernization initiatives are helping NATO address these challenges — accelerating decision cycles, strengthening secure collaboration and reinforcing alliance readiness.

Turning minutes into seconds in information processing

Within NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT), command staff and analysts were managing growing volumes of structured and unstructured information. Manual document review and task tracking could take between five and 10 minutes per document, slowing the flow of critical intelligence and coordination.

To help address this challenge, we worked with NATO to introduce AI FELIX, an AI-supported knowledge agent operating within the alliance’s secure environment. Today, document processing time has been reduced to approximately 27 seconds per document. By automating repetitive analysis tasks and streamlining workflows, the system enables faster interpretation of information while maintaining strict security standards.

AI FELIX now operates across 27 NATO command structure locations and is scalable to support up to 30,000 users. We supported integration with existing secure systems to ensure the capability could be adopted at scale. Shortening information processing cycles strengthens NATO’s ability to respond in real time where incremental gains in speed can contribute to improved operational outcomes.

Extending secure communications beyond fixed networks

As NATO operations become increasingly distributed, secure mobile access to classified communications has become essential. Commanders and operational teams require the ability to access sensitive voice and data services securely, regardless of location.

Through the HERMES project, NATO’s Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) advanced a secure mobile communications capability designed to provide encrypted, mission-grade access to classified information on approved devices. In support of this effort, we delivered secure mobile access components and worked alongside NCIA to ensure the solution met stringent mission and security requirements.

The solution includes end-to-end encryption, secure VPN connectivity and 24/7 monitoring through a dedicated Service Operation Centre. By extending classified communications beyond traditional fixed-network environments, NATO strengthens operational agility and continuity—reducing dependence on static infrastructure in dynamic mission contexts.

Reinforcing the alliance’s digital backbone

These initiatives build on broader efforts to modernize NATO’s foundational systems and improve interoperability across member nations. In collaboration with NATO partners, we have supported:

  • Deploying a secure document management platform across 23 locations and approximately 25,000 civilian and military users in Europe, Turkey and the U.S. to strengthen governance across the alliance’s secret network
  • Testing interoperable collaboration portals during exercises involving approximately 6,500 soldiers from Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and the U.S. to advance coordinated multinational command
  • Advancing innovation through AI experimentation, including a silver medal–recognized prototype at the NATO TIDE Hackathon 2025

Together, these initiatives demonstrate how coordinated digital modernization can translate into measurable operational outcomes improving speed, strengthening security and enhancing interoperability across a multinational alliance.

Enabling future-ready defense capabilities

As NATO continues adapting to evolving security challenges, capabilities such as AI-enabled decision support and secure mobile communications will remain central to mission effectiveness. By working closely with NATO stakeholders, NCIA and allied command structures, we are helping NATO in building what’s next, supporting initiatives that strengthen secure information flows, accelerate coordinated decision-making and enhance interoperability across member nations.

These advancements reflect a shared commitment to modernizing the alliance’s digital foundation, ensuring that collective defense operations remain resilient, responsive and future-ready.
