CGI Group Inc. (TSX: GIB.A) (NYSE: GIB), a leading provider of information technology and business process services, and Toronto-based Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (Sunnybrook) today announced the launch of CGI’s Sovera Health Information Management (HIM) System (Sovera), an enterprise clinical content management solution that strengthens Sunnybrook’s position as a leader in the provisioning of groundbreaking healthcare in Canada.

“CGI has been a trusted advisor and partner on our journey to delivering patient health records electronically and eliminating paper files,” said Sam Marafioti, Vice-President, Corporate Strategy & Development CIO, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. “Through the use of Sovera, our clinical productivity has been enhanced, while continuing to deliver quality care to our patients and ensuring patient safety. We now have a flexible framework that can be leveraged in the future to share information and automate other functions within our health system.”

"Sunnybrook is well-known for its innovation and its strategic vision to invent the future of patient care,” said Hitesh Seth, Sector Vice-President, CGI. “Leveraging industry-leading technology, Sovera supports Sunnybrook’s vision, allowing its physicians and medical professionals to focus on patient care, while reducing costs, improving efficiencies, and creating a paperless environment for the hospital.”

Sunnybrook’s vision for building the future of healthcare has moved the health system to an electronic patient record (EPR) that allows the health records for the over 2.5 million patients registered at Sunnybrook to be securely accessed by medical staff and health data records analysts at anytime through a web-based browser. Sunnybrook partnered with CGI to deliver this critical phase in its vision to ensure that all patient clinical information, hospital stay and clinic visit information, as well as test results are also available through Sunnybrook’s EPR.

CGI’s Sovera solution is used to scan paper-based patient charts, integrate the information with patient clinical information in other systems and automate the workflow to ensure the chart is complete and available online to Sunnybrook clinicians and administrative staff. Patients may also request a copy of their medical record in electronic format using Sovera’s Release of Information (ROI) solution through Sunnybrook’s Health Data Records department.

Sovera, CGI’s market leading enterprise clinical and content management system used by 200,000+ licensed health professionals in more than 250 hospitals across North America, is a complete digital records management system that automates health information workflow processes including: medical coding, chart review, analysis and completion, and records release.  Sovera provides secure, instant online access to patient information that increases the productivity of medical professionals and enhances patient care.

Integrated by CGI into Sunnybrooks’ existing health information system, Sovera will manage Sunnybrook’s millions of patient records and images of scanned paper charts, so that past and present clinical and diagnostic information can be accessed, reviewed and signed off upon by the physician and the health data records community. Health data record analysts can now evaluate charts and effectively communicate online to physicians regarding their chart deficiencies.  Physicians will no longer have to wait for paper based documents to be delivered to review and sign charts; they will be able to view the scanned images from wherever they are providing critical care to patients when it matters the most.

Built on a proven flexible and extensible enterprise content management platform, CGI’s Sovera enables unstructured content (scanned paper documents, email, photographs, etc) to be tightly integrated with structured information in the systems of record to present information when and where needed to automate processes throughout the enterprise – such as Health Records, Accounts Payable, Contracts, Employee Health Services, Human Resources, Patient Admission and Medical Affairs.

CGI provides a full suite of health IT solutions that reduce operating costs, advance the quality of care, and promote health with an emphasis on enterprise content management (ECM), health information exchange (HIE), chronic disease management, diagnostic imaging, SAP for health, quality and operational efficiency improvements. As a trusted health IT services partner, governments, provincial ministries, hospitals, health systems, HIE organizations and health insurers rely on CGI's health solutions and services to achieve success.
