Paris, France, May 27, 2014

CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) announces that it has achieved ISO 14001 certification for all of its offices in France. This certification testifies to CGI’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprintIt also demonstrates the responsible practices that have been implemented within the business.

“CGI is committed to protecting the environment by operating in a responsible and ecologically sound manner. This certification bears witness to our commitment to the environment,” explains Jean-Michel Baticle, President of CGI in France, Morocco and Luxemburg. “In addition to a responsible purchasing system, we are constantly working to improve our travel policy, waste production, and energy and water consumption.”

ISO 14001 is an international standard. Applying the requirements of this standard enables CGI to monitor and improve its environmental performance. The standard certifies an environmental management system (EMS) – a series of processes that provide a framework for incorporating environmental considerations into other corporate management systems. To achieve an EMS that fulfils the requirements of ISO 14001, the system must allow performance to be monitored, pollution levels to be reduced, awareness to be raised among employees and the applicable environmental regulations to be observed. All of this must take place within a framework of continuous improvement, where the checks in place allow beneficial changes to be made to the system at the right time and the effectiveness of operations to be maintained.

CGI in France’s environmental program, launched in 2009, aims to reduce the business’s greenhouse gas emissions by 3% each year. In order to achieve this aim, CGI has taken action on a number of different levels.

  • Employee travel (work-related and commuting). As this is the largest source of pollution, CGI signed a teleworking agreement in 2010 that allows its employees to elect to work from home for up to four days per week, with the consent of their manager.

CGI also offers

    • 100% reimbursement of public transport expenses
    • The repayment of costs related to the bike sharing scheme
    • Access to virtual conferencing for all employees
  • Electricity consumption in our buildings (infrastructure and equipment). CGI is conducting several initiatives in this area to streamline and virtualize its servers and is providing support to its employees to ensure effective energy management.
  • Purchasing. From this point onwards, suppliers of CGI in France will have to complete an analysis table relating to their environmental policy and their broader corporate social responsibility (CSR). Environmental criteria are also taken into account during purchasing activities, particularly in the case of computer hardware.
  • Waste (reducing the volume of waste produced and reusing waste). Every CGI site in France has initiated a sorting program for at least four categories of waste: WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment), paper, light bulbs and batteries, and other non-hazardous waste.
  • Water consumption. CGI in France is implementing a program aimed at reducing water consumption by installing faucet aerators, eliminating leaks and collecting rainwater at some sites, in particular Bordeaux.

Each CGI site (21 in France) is subject to a twice-yearly assessment which tracks development and drives the program forwards, using an “environmental dashboard” to raise employee awareness and promote best practices.

CGI is also raising employee awareness about the initiative by means of local ambassadors and communicative efforts such as an online game, distributing magnets that act as reminders of the main ISO principles (see image) and inviting employees to consult their site’s environmental dashboard, which is published on CGI’s Intranet and shows the efforts of each entity

CGI is also one of the companies listed on the FTSE4Good index* and is a member of The Green Grid. To find out more about our environmental commitment, visit our web site: http://www.cgi.com/en/corporate-social-responsibility/environment
