What is the TI Gateway?

The Telematics Infrastructure (TI) in Germany is a secure, closed network for the digital exchange of health-related data. Through the TI, health system participants are networked to enable the cross-institutional exchange of patient data. This allows medical documents to be sent to treating clinicians quickly, easily, and securely.

Communicating securely requires providers to be connected to the TI, but the needed hardware can pose security risks for the sensitive data exchanged. gematik GmbH, a digital health infrastructure provider and CGI’s e-health expert partner, was commissioned more than 10 years ago to set up, operate and further develop standards for the TI Gateway.

Today, the TI Gateway serves as a modern, secure gatekeeper for Germany’s healthcare network. Instead of each doctor, hospital or pharmacy needing their own "keycard" to access the network, the TI Gateway is a central hub that manages access for all.
