Montreal, Quebec, September 19, 1998

Public Works and Government Services Canada and CGI have announced the signing of a contract according to which CGI will provide government departments and agencies with an integrated document management solution. The initial contract is worth $1.7 million but has a potential value of $109 million over its five-year term.

"We are pleased that PWGSC and the Treasury Board chose us as their information technology partner to help in the implementation of an integrated document and records management system," said Jean Brassard, CGI's President and COO. "CGI has the country's largest team of document management specialists in Ottawa, in addition to end-to-end IT capabilities and a coast-to-coast infrastructure. We are therefore well positioned to meet the document management needs of government agencies and departments across Canada."

As part of this agreement, CGI will provide individual departments with a suite of business solutions and services to support their document and records management functions. This national project (named Records, Document and Imaging Management Systems - RDIMS) began several years ago and is a shared systems initiative involving a number of government departments.

It includes the automated transmission, processing and management of documents both within a department and among offices across Canada. Documents may be electronic, such as word processing files and e-mail, or non-electronic, such as paper, photographs, maps and artwork, among others. CGI's solution will help government departments enhance the operational efficiency of their document management processes.

CGI is the largest Canadian-owned independent information technology consulting firm, providing end-to-end IT services and business solutions to some 2,000 clients throughout North America and internationally. CGI has more than 7,500 professionals, a revenue-run rate of approximately $1.3 billion and an order backlog totalling $6 billion. CGI's shares (GIB.A) are included in The Toronto Stock Exchange's TSE 300 Composite and TSE 200 indexes.
