CGI recently has been awarded a contract with Health Canada, valued at up to
CDN$4.5 million over a term of up to three years, to provide professional
services to aid Health Canada in the provision of SESD services. The SESD
project is a comprehensive, multi-year, corporate initiative in Health Canada to
provide essential security services across the department.

Health Canada is currently at the stage where there is an operational public key infrastructure (PKI), ensuring the prevention of the unauthorized use of digital data or digital devices. CGI will work with Health Canada to upgrade the PKI and create a secure applications environment, implementing Internet-based security solutions to fulfil the security requirements of the department.

In addition to providing expert advice on security management for this SESD environment, as part of this contract CGI will carry out the evaluation and integration of security products to provide services required to establish public confidence in electronic service delivery (ESD). CGI's IT security professionals will provide expert analysis to develop, modify, or validate security policy, procedures, and guidelines, develop a governance framework, review existing certificate policies and certificate practice statements, and design the security architecture. The transfer of technological knowledge to Health Canada employees, in the areas of security management, PKI, technical architecture and product evaluation and integration, is a key component of CGI's mandate.

Michael Roach, executive vice-president and general manager, Canada, CGI said, "In today's growing e-commerce world, the need for secure and legal signed documents is vital and will continue to grow at a rapid pace. Over the years, CGI's professionals have made their mark in ESD and are ready to help our clients meet this growing need."

Over the last seven years, CGI has developed one of the strongest security practices in Canada. Currently over 40 security-cleared IT professionals provide a full range of security services to a variety of public and private sector clients. CGI's established security practice is well versed in security gap analyses, threat risk assessments, Internet security vulnerabilities, firewall configurations and security architecture design.
