Alcoa Mill Products, a division of the Aluminum Company of America, Inc. (Alcoa), has selected CGI to provide onsite and offshore application maintenance services for a large number of applications in key business areas. Alcoa is the world’s leading producer of primary aluminum, fabricated aluminum and alumina, with more than 142,000 employees in 37 countries. Alcoa Mill Products is one of Alcoa’s major businesses, producing the widest variety of aluminum sheet and plate products in the world. The company decided to seek an outsourcing partner for application maintenance to reduce costs and to reallocate internal IT staff to more mission-critical initiatives. Particularly, the company wanted to free up its IT staff to focus on a major strategic initiative to replace most of its core legacy applications with packaged software from Oracle.
