Montreal, Quebec, October 18, 1999

CGI today announced that it was awarded the prestigious K.C. Irving Quality Award, which is granted for achievement in overall business quality through commitment to continuous improvement. This New Brunswick Quality award, which CGI received for the Services Industry category, is based on the same strict guidelines as developed by the National Quality Institute.

This award recognizes companies that improve competitiveness of products and services in the marketplace while reaching a high level of customer satisfaction based on the total involvement of all company members. Award criteria were based on seven levels of total quality - leadership, planning, customer focus, people focus, process management, supplier focus, and organizational performance.

"We are honored to be receiving such a highly regarded award," said Paule Doré, Executive Vice-president, Corporate Affairs, CGI. "This provides something for all employees to be really proud of. At CGI, quality has always been at the heart of everything we do. In fact, our ISO 9001 certification quality standards have helped define how we do business, which we refer to as the CGI Way."

This award follows the lead that CGI has taken in its strong adherence to quality. In 1994, CGI was the first North American company in its field to get ISO 9001 certification for its Project Management Framework. CGI's ISO certification consulting services are designed to help organizations reach their quality objectives faster, thanks to support at all stages of quality development.

CGI is currently completing the acquisition of New Brunswick-based MCM Technology Inc., an IT services company specializing in large project management and leading edge component-based development (CBM). With this acquisition, CGI will have five offices and 200 professionals in Atlantic Canada. Also, CGI will be more strongly positioned than ever to continue developing its IT expertise and involve Atlantic Canada staff on projects that can be carried out for clients from across North America and around the world.

CGI is the largest independent information technology consulting firm in Canada and the fifth largest in North America, based on its revenue run rate of CDN$1.5 billion. Its order backlog totals approximately CDN$7.5 billion and the company currently has proposals outstanding for an additional CDN$4 billion in potential large contracts. CGI has 10,000 professionals and provides end-to-end IT services and business solutions to 2,500 clients in Canada, the United States and more than 23 countries around the world. CGI's shares are listed on the New York Stock Exchange (GIB), as well as on the Toronto and Montreal exchanges (GIB.A). They are included in the Toronto Stock Exchange's TSE 300 Composite and TSE 100 indexes. Web site: www.cgi.ca.
