Introducing new Remote Operating Position for renewables control rooms

The RMS Remote Operations Position was recently enhanced and modernized. Well suited to control rooms, where a clear overview of all assets in real time and the shortest time to action are a priority, it was designed according to the best user experience practices and features new added-value tools to support efficient operations, such as:

To Do List for operators: with Business Process Management capabilities, it stores a series of step-by-step workflows so that operators know what to do when a particular situation occurs, for example if a turbine stops or a substation trips. RMS also provides condition information for situation context awareness, such as alarms and measurement evolutions. From his or her personal dashboard, the operator has a range of information at their fingertips, including the production trends of their operating area, the tasks they have performed on their shift, and a list of the power plants that have required the most interventions.

Multiple commands: allows the user to send multiple commands to a set of assets. Users can select from a predefined list or set their own, define causes and add tips or notes.

Highlights from Amsterdam

In November, our team took part in the WindEurope Conference & Exhibition in Amsterdam, which drew over 8,000 visitors from all around the world. At the fair we showed off the brand new version 4.0 of our Renewables Management System, the result of our close collaboration with Microsoft and a step forward on our journey into the IoT world.

The new frontier for RMS

CGI has teamed up with Microsoft to bring the RMS solution to the cloud leveraging Microsoft’s Internet of Things (IoT) suite. The solution includes real-time monitoring and alarms, control, real-time data processing and analytics and an easy access and cross-platform user interface. Customer Story

Iberwind has been using RMS since 2015, allowing them to monitor, control and manage all their wind farms from a single platform. Recently Iberwind’s portfolio has expanded, and RMS has kept pace by integrating additional protocols and adding new turbines. The IEC 61400-25 protocol was recently used to connect 24 new turbines. These five new wind farms will add a further 52 MW of installed power to Iberwind’s portfolio.
