GDPR may have grabbed the national headlines – but did you know the Network and Information Systems Directive (NIS) has been part of UK law since May 2018 and companies can be fined up to £17 million for non-compliance?
With almost half of firms across the UK experiencing a cyber-attack or breach every year*, the NIS Directive is in place to make essential services better protected and resilient to such attacks. As well as ensuring compliance, companies have to report suspected breaches in a timely manner.
On 13th February CGI, in partnership with Robert Gordon University, will host a seminar on the new ‘Network and Information Systems Directive – protecting Essential Services in a world of increasing cyber threats.’
The event will take place at the RGU campus in Aberdeen on Wednesday the 13th of February 2019 at 3pm and is open to all those working in or with an interest in cyber security.
- Richard Holmes, Cyber Security Services Lead for CGI UK, will outline the aims of the NIS Directive, the new legal requirements and the stakeholders impacted, including Operators of Essential Services and their supply chains. Sectors impacted by the regulation include Energy, Utilities, Transport and Healthcare.
- Keith McDevitt, Cyber Integrator at Scottish Government will also to attending to share their perspective on NIS-Directive.
The event will explore approaches to achieve compliance with the NIS Directive, such as maturity assessments, as well as exercising incident response procedures that would be used in the event of a significant attack.
The day will conclude with a networking event providing opportunity to meet other attendees, speakers and hosts. Light refreshments will also be served.
