Fairfax, Virginia, March 31, 2014

CGI Federal Inc. (CGI) , a wholly-owned U.S. operating subsidiary of CGI Group Inc. (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A), announced today that it has been granted a “Provisional Authority to Operate” (P-ATO) by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), which serves as the cloud service broker for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

DISA is a combat support agency for the DoD, that promotes information-sharing capabilities and a globally accessible enterprise information infrastructure across military operations.

The DoD authorization builds upon CGI’s commitment to cloud security as a component of our customers’ missions. Last year, CGI became the first large provider to be granted the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMPSM) provisional authority to operate cloud services for civilian federal government agencies.

FedRAMP is a GSA-initiated, government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security and facilitates the provision of cloud services to different agencies under one authorization. It provides a “do once, use many times” framework that aims to reduce cost, time, and staff required for assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring for cloud services.

“CGI is excited to be a part of an effort that brings together all branches of the military around common security controls in this critical infrastructure and application management technology,” said Dr. James Peake, Lt. Gen. (Ret), president of CGI Federal. “We stand ready as a company to meet the rigorous standards needed to support our military operations around the globe.”

CGI’s FedRAMP authorization includes security services on virtual “cloud” machines. Since receiving this authorization, components of the U.S. Army along with eleven federal agencies and five state agencies have moved their applications or websites to a CGI cloud environment. CGI was also recently awarded a spot on the Continuous Diagnostics and Monitoring (CDM) contract vehicle for the Department of Homeland Security to provide continuous assessment of an agency’s security posture.

“A fundamental requirement of any Cloud environment whether public, community, private or hybrid is security,” said James Pyon, CGI Vice-President and Cloud Offering Executive. “CGI is adding new, secure Cloud services to continually remain relevant as government IT needs evolve and expand. The recent P-ATO CGI received is an example of new Cloud services available to the DoD.”

As a global full-service cloud provider for commercial and government organizations, CGI’s expertise, solutions, and governance help organizations navigate the transition, integration, and on-going management of the cloud. CGI is one of three companies awarded positions on both of GSA’s government-wide cloud blanket purchase agreements for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Email as a Service. In the United Kingdom (UK), CGI was also selected as one of the suppliers for G-Cloud II, the second phase of the UK government’s procurement portal, G-Cloud, which is part of a government-wide commitment to the adoption of cloud computing and delivering computing resources. This enables CGI to offer solutions across the four areas G-Cloud II covers, including IaaS, Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), and specialist cloud services.
