About the programme

As the energy transition accelerates, digitalisation is not simply a luxury, it is essential. CGI and Utility Week, alongside the Energy Geeks, explore how digitalisation can support a smarter, cleaner and more flexible energy system. Moving beyond high-level ambition to focus on the practical steps, standards and system-wide thinking needed to turn intent into operational reality.

Who are the Energy Geeks?

The Energy Geeks are a group of industry thinkers, practitioners and digital specialists brought together by Utility Week to challenge assumptions, test bold ideas and explore how smarter use of data and technology can accelerate the energy transition. They are Eric Brown, Maxine Frerk, Simon Harrison, Roger Hey, Laura Sandys CBE and Steven Steer.

The vital role of Utility Week and The Energy Geeks

CGI's Vice President Consulting Expert in Digital Utilities, Rich Hampshire comments:

"The expectations of digitalisation are enormous and time is short. Assumptions about the scope of each initiative and inter-dependencies on each other are unclear. To deliver at the pace necessary, the need for clarity and coordination seems essential. Through this initiative with Utility Week, we will agree on the challenges and establish a discourse to find better ways of accelerating progress."
