CGI (TSX: GIB.A) (NYSE: GIB) has been awarded a four-year contract to provide application support services to the UK’s Radioactive Incident Monitoring Network (RMNET 3). CGI will be responsible for ensuring that critical monitoring services are available should a potential nuclear incident occur overseas, enabling UK authorities to monitor incidents and coordinate any required emergency response.

RIMNET 3 is the UK Government's national radiation monitoring and nuclear emergency response system. It was set up following the Chernobyl accident as part of its arrangements for dealing with the effects of overseas nuclear accidents within the UK. DECC, as the lead government department for overseas nuclear accidents, coordinates the government’s response to incidents and oversees operation of the RIMNET system, which was implemented by the Met Office.

CGI will deliver application management and support services, as well as security management and facilities management. Support services will be delivered from CGI’s five-star* accredited service centre in South Wales with hardware break-fix services delivered in partnership with CC Engineering, a small and medium enterprise (SME) in the UK.

Energy Minister Baroness Verma said, “The Radiation Incident Monitoring Network (RIMNET) system plays a vital role as the UK's national radiation monitoring and nuclear emergency response system. CGI and the Met Office bring important expertise and experience in this area.”

Chris George, vice president of digital government at CGI in the UK, said, “We have a long and successful history in working with DECC and the Met Office to ensure RIMNET is actively ready to help support should a radioactive incident occur. This new contract confirms our expertise in delivering critical national infrastructure in partnership with our clients.”

*CGI has a five-star certification from the Service Desk Institute for its UK service desk.
