CGI (TSX: GIB.A) (NYSE: GIB), today announced it has created more than 500 new roles in South Wales since it agreed funding from the Welsh Government in 2014. The new roles are based in the local authority area of Bridgend County Borough, South Wales where CGI is one of the largest IT employers.

CGI delivers a range of outsourcing, application services and infrastructure services to clients across the UK from South Wales. The new roles include service desk analysts, technical design architects, project management, security specialists and network engineers and are critical in CGI delivering services to clients in both the commercial and public sectors.

In 2014, the Welsh Government agreed funding to support the creation of 620 new jobs over five years, with CGI recruiting over 500 new members in the first 18months of the programme to support its business growth.

Welcoming the news Economy Minister Edwina Hart said: “CGI is one of our Anchor Companies and I am delighted to hear it has already created hundreds of jobs well ahead of schedule. This is excellent news and a significant boost for the local economy while opening up a wide range of career opportunities for people in the region.

“CGI is one of the largest technology companies operating in the ICT sector in Wales and makes a significant contribution to the Welsh economy. This major investment in Bridgend, where it has a highly successful operation, is very welcome and ensures South Wales will continue to be a strategically important part of the company’s growth plans.”

This is a significant milestone in our recruitment programme to enable our growth plans and development of new offerings to our clients. Our relationship with the Welsh Government has assisted in recruiting these roles and we are well on track working with them to deliver our ambitious growth plans.”

CGI is also investing more than £1million in improving its Bridgend offices. The forthcoming refurbishment will enhance facilities for CGI members as part of CGI’s commitment to offering a great place to work.

CGI is recognised by the Welsh Government as an important contributor to the continued economic development of Wales and has been awarded Anchor Company status.
