Helping Damia Group set science-based targets

The challenge

As a sustainable and forward-thinking business, Damia Group wanted to take the next step in its approach to climate action by setting science-based emission reduction targets. There were a clear business and environmental rationale: setting credible targets is the right thing to do, while customers and supply chain partners are increasingly asking organisations to demonstrate meaningful climate commitments.

Damia Group aspired to:

1. Establish a robust and credible baseline of their greenhouse gas emissions across relevant Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 categories
2. Set ambitious, achievable emissions reduction targets in line with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)
3. Build a practical pathway to reducing emissions and improving performance over time
4. Strengthen their sustainability credentials and be able to demonstrate meaningful progress to customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders

Our approach

CGI worked closely with Damia Group throughout the process, combining technical sustainability expertise with practical, firsthand guidance. We established a series of meetings with key stakeholders to understand Damia’s business, existing data and sustainability priorities, before reviewing and assessing its greenhouse gas emissions across relevant Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 categories.

We then supported Damia in defining an appropriate science-based target-setting approach, explaining the SBTi requirements and helping stakeholders understand what was required at each stage. CGI guided Damia through the SBTi portal and validation process, working alongside the team to navigate the submission and respond to the technical and practical considerations involved.

Throughout the engagement, communication was ongoing, with CGI acting as a trusted consultant and providing the reassurance, challenge and support needed to keep the process moving and ensure the targets were both ambitious and achievable. 

This work helped Damia Group turn its climate ambition into a credible science-based pathway for reducing emissions. With CGI’s guidance Damia successfully achieved SBTi validation, giving the organisation greater confidence in its targets and a stronger basis for demonstrating its sustainability commitment to customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.

Results 

The engagement gave Damia Group a robust foundation for its ongoing decarbonisation journey. The organisation successfully achieved SBTi validation of its nearterm emissions reduction targets, giving it a credible, science-based pathway for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Damia now has a clearer and more credible way to measure and understand its emissions, alongside a practical roadmap that it can build on as it works towards its reduction goals. Damia has established a platform for continued improvement, enabling it to track progress, identify further opportunities to reduce emissions and strengthen its environmental performance over time.

The validation of targets also strengthens Damia’s sustainability credentials with customers, investors, suppliers and other stakeholders, helping the business response to growing expectations across its value chain. For Damia, setting science-based targets is both an important environmental commitment and a positive business decision. Having independently validated targets provides tangible evidence of its sustainability ambition and gives the organisation a stronger story to take to existing and prospective clients. In turn, this can support customer confidence and retention, differentiate Damia in competitive tender processes and help meet the increasingly common sustainability expectations built into client and supply-chain relationships.
