Following significant investment, CGI has officially opened its new Secure Cyber Centre in Chippenham, advancing the UK's national cyber resilience and reinforcing support to the defence community, particularly in the Cyber and Electromagnetic (CEM) domain. The facility was formally opened by Air Vice-Marshal Tom Ashbridge, Commander Defence Cyber & EM Force (DCEMF).
Air Vice-Marshal Tom Ashbridge, Commander Defence Cyber & EM Force (DCEMF) said: “CGI continues to demonstrate what it means to be a strategic partner to Defence. Their investment in this new Cyber Centre shows a clear commitment to supporting the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) approach to cyber resilience, not just with infrastructure, but with a collaborative, whole-force mindset”.
As part of CGI’s long-standing partnership with UK defence, the centre provides a secure sovereign environment for delivering advanced cyber capabilities including Security Operating Centres (SOCs) that help clients prepare for, defend against and recover from increasingly persistent cyber threats.
A stronger foundation for cyber resilience
In an increasingly persistent and evolving threat landscape, resilience is essential. The CGI Chippenham Cyber Centre will play an important role in helping UK defence clients enhance resilience across operations, delivering secure, mission-focused cyber solutions, with an emphasis on protecting critical national infrastructure and supporting the DCEMF.
Partnership driving resilience
Neil Timms, Senior Vice President, Space, Defence and Intelligence at CGI in the UK and Australia said: “Collaboration between government and industry is vital in achieving national resilience. Our Chippenham Cyber Centre enables closer collaboration between CGI experts and defence stakeholders, creating the conditions for shared insight, co-developed solutions and agile responses to provide additional expert capacity as part of the DCEMF whole force endeavour”.
Investing locally for national impact
Located closely to the MOD in Corsham, the centre forms part of CGI’s expanding investment in secure delivery locations across the UK and will create and sustain high-skilled cyber jobs in Chippenham and the wider south-west region. It is also aligned with the UK’s National Cyber Strategy and Ministry of Defence’s Strategic Defence Review objectives to strengthen sovereign cyber capabilities across Critical National Infrastructures and secure supply chains.
It provides a hub for those CGI Partners who are proud to be members of the Cyber Reserve as part of CGI’s Corporate Covenant commitments and is also home to the CGI Cyber Escape room. Aimed at raising cyber awareness, this is an experience, deployed UK wide, built within a shipping container that enables teams, from school children to professionals, to work together to uncover clues, solve puzzles and accomplish cyber-related tasks to escape successfully in the time allowed.
With over 1700 cyber security professionals globally, and 1750 space, defence and security experts in the UK, CGI supports defence clients with expertise spanning secure systems integration, security operations and the CEM landscape.
