CGI is proud to support the latest Workforce Foresighting Hub report from Digital Catapult and Innovate UK, highlighting the workforce challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G-enabled networks across the UK telecoms sector.

The report identifies urgent skills gaps and workforce needs critical to delivering outcomes in AI and 5G at scale over the next two to five years. From the rise of machine learning operations (MLOps) to the increasing demand for data governance and cyber security expertise, the research outlines the roles and capabilities most needed to operationalise emerging technologies and secure the UK’s digital infrastructure.

Driving industry-led insight

As a sponsor and active contributor to the report, CGI helped shape the conversation through participation in early workshops and targeted survey responses. Our insights were channelled into working groups that developed the study’s final findings, supporting an evidence-led approach grounded in real industry needs.

Our involvement reflects CGI’s broader commitment to delivering sustainable, real-world outcomes in the telecoms industry, drawing on our deep domain knowledge, technology partnerships, and long-standing track record in critical national infrastructure programmes.

“Our participation in this initiative reinforces CGI’s focus on helping telecoms providers unlock the full potential of 5G and AI. We believe this requires more than technology - it requires the right skills, leadership and cross-sector coordination. By identifying the workforce capabilities that matter most, we can help ensure organisations are prepared for what’s next and collectively accelerate innovation, resilience and customer value across the sector.”

Turning insight into action

Beyond the report, we have also been invited to join the report’s forthcoming Cause Action group, a cross-industry coalition focused on implementing the recommendations and tackling the most pressing workforce challenges identified through the study.

By continuing to collaborate with alliances such as Digital Catapult and Innovate UK, CGI aims to help build a future-ready telecoms workforce, equipped to deliver national connectivity priorities and unlock long-term value for communities, citizens and businesses.
