We are delighted to have recently signed a 2-year contract with The Office for National Statistics (ONS) to provide application development services to develop a new Statistical Business Register (SBR).

The Office for National Statistics is the UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics and is recognised as a national statistical institute (NSI). It is responsible for collecting and publishing statistics related to the economy, population, and society at national, regional, and local levels and also conducts the Census for England and Wales every 10 years.

In order to collect this data, surveys are carried out throughout the year and maintaining an accurate database of participants, such as the Statistical Business Register (SBR), is key to achieving this successfully.

The new register will help to:

  • Reduce the reliance on manual activities carried out by IT support teams
  • Increase the business population of the register
  • Support additional data relating to the financial services sector
  • Provide a more flexible, end user self-service
  • Retain a history of all business structure changes.

The new system will be developed using an agile phased approach based on human centered design principles.

“We are delighted to be working with ONS on this business-critical programme. It is further evidence of our strategy to deliver high value tools to Government that simplify and automate processes wherever possible.” - David Pegg, Director Consulting Services, Government Sector, CGI UK
