In this article, Jasmin Mahdi from our Global Technology Operations team reveals how she is shaping her career at CGI, sharing pivotal moments that changed her direction, the steps she is taking towards a people-focused leadership role, and her advice for anyone looking to take ownership of their career journey.

When I think about my future at CGI, I see a place where I can grow, not just in terms of my career, but also in how I support and uplift others. I’m looking forward to taking on more responsibility, connecting more with internal teams and continuing to align my work with my values. I genuinely believe CGI is a place where I can thrive. Our culture of ownership means I have the space to shape my path and make a meaningful impact.
Why I’m excited about what’s next
What really excites me about the direction I’m taking is the chance to move into a people-focused role, like management. It feels like a natural next step, a way to build on the experience I’ve gained and to pass on the knowledge I’ve picked up along the way. I enjoy working with people and I’m really motivated by the idea of supporting others, learning how to lead and creating positive, collaborative working environments. It’s about using creativity in how we lead, communicate and influence change, all while staying true to who we are.
The moment that shifted my perspective
One of the defining moments for me was when I first started handling customer feedback, this was early on in my time at CGI. It really opened my eyes to how important the people side of the business is. It’s not just about understanding users’ needs, but also how we, as a team, work together to find solutions and support one another. That experience really stayed with me. It helped me realise that I want to focus more on building relationships, supporting others and helping to create a workplace where people feel heard and appreciated. I’ve had incredible support from my managers throughout my journey here and it’s made me want to pay that forward.
The kind of impact I want to make
My goal is to be someone my team can count on, someone who’s approachable, respectful and always willing to help. I want to contribute to a culture where people feel comfortable, supported and valued. That applies to both colleagues and clients. I want the way I work to reflect what CGI stands for and also what I stand for. For me, it’s about showing that support, care and collaboration can lead to real outcomes. Being part of a company where I feel empowered to do that makes a big difference.
Steps I’m taking to get there
I’m not just thinking about the future, I’m actively working towards it. In August, I’ll be starting the ‘Step Up to Management’ course, which I’m really looking forward to. It feels like a big step in the right direction. I’ve also taken part in initiatives like the All-CGI Partner Panel which helped me build confidence and connect with others across different teams. In my day-to-day role, I make a conscious effort to be positive, collaborative and a good team player. I try to show up in a way that lifts others, because I know that’s what creates a strong team culture.
My advice to others at CGI
If you’re thinking about how to shape your future at CGI, my advice is simple: Be curious, take initiative and say yes to new opportunities. Whether that’s learning something new through Academia, asking your manager for more responsibility, or shadowing a team that interests you, those moments of stepping out of your comfort zone really add up. From my experience, CGI is a place where you’ll be supported if you show interest. Progression is encouraged and you don’t have to do it alone. So back yourself. Be an owner of your journey. Be creative in how you get there. And most of all, know that you’ll be supported every step of the way.
