CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) has been awarded the UK MOD’s 2019 Defence Employer Recognition Scheme gold award for its work supporting the armed forces. The award recognises CGI’s ongoing commitment to employ and support current serving personnel, veterans and their families.
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: “These awards recognise the outstanding support for our armed forces from employers across Britain and I would like to thank and congratulate each and every one.
Regardless of size, location or sector, employing ex-forces personnel is good for business and this year we have doubled the number of awards in recognition of the fantastic support they give.”
Minister for Defence People and Veterans Johnny Mercer said: “Veterans make a huge contribution to businesses across the country and it’s fantastic to see a record breaking number of organisations recognised for their support. We’re working closely with businesses to help them further understand the huge value that veterans, reservists and military spouses can bring to their organisation.”
Neil Timms, Senior Vice President, Space, Defence and Intelligence at CGI in the UK said: “We owe a debt of thanks to the soldiers, sailors and airmen that defend us and their families who support them in doing that. I strongly believe that the UK’s armed forces deserve the support of organisations such as CGI and all UK organisations should sign the Corporate Covenant. We employ a large number of veterans and reservists who add great value to our business and I am very proud to have them as colleagues and to be recognised by the MOD for our contribution. It’s great to give something back!”
CGI supports the Armed Forces community by employing veterans, supporting individuals transitioning out of the armed forces into a new career and providing flexibility for reservists including paid leave for training. Its Armed Forces Community runs a series of events and activities across the UK to both commemorate and share knowledge between veterans, reservists and CGI’s other professionals. In 2015 CGI was recognised with the Defence Employers Scheme silver award and this gold award represents significant efforts across the company to provide more support for these important communities.
CGI has worked with the MOD for more than 40 years and has built a reputation for delivering secure end‑to‑end information solutions. CGI provides defence advice, software solutions, systems integration, secure hosting services and training across the MOD including business, logistics and management information to frontline operations. This includes important systems such as the MOD’s Primary Care health system and CGI sees our Armed Forces Covenant related activities as a natural extension of its professional work to support the MOD and its personnel.
