Following a competitive tender process, CGI has been awarded the strategic support and development contract with the Mining Remediation Authority for up to a further 8 years, building on a trusted relationship that has evolved over the last fifteen years.

CGI has been awarded an eight-year strategic support and development contract with the Mining Remediation Authority, building on a trusted relationship that has evolved over fifteen years. The £20 million partnership will enhance and modernise the digital services that underpin the Mining Remediation Authority’s statutory role in keeping people and the environment safe across former mining areas in England, Wales, and Scotland.

CGI first partnered with the Mining Remediation Authority to design, build and support its Enterprise Mining Information System, a core national service that provides vital mining reports, public safety intelligence, and planning information. Over time, the relationship has shifted from a traditional supplier model into a collaborative, agile partnership, with CGI helping the Mining Remediation Authority to develop in-house capability, adopt new ways of working and mature its digital estate.

Under the new contract, CGI will act as the Mining Remediation Authority’s strategic delivery partner, providing end-to-end support across applications, cloud platforms, and data services. This includes ongoing development and maintenance of the enterprise mining information system, support for the Mining Remediation Authority’s growing digital programme, and the flexibility to scale specialist expertise as requirements evolve.

The partnership will also support the Mining Remediation Authority’s continued adoption of geospatial technologies and its exploration of artificial intelligence to enhance service resilience, improve data quality, and deliver greater value for citizens and stakeholders.

Kevin O’Neill, Senior Vice President and Business Unit Leader for Government and Justice, CGI, commented:
“We are proud to continue our long-standing partnership with the Mining Remediation Authority at a moment of significant growth and change for the organisation. Over the years, we have built a trusted relationship founded on dependable delivery, deep domain knowledge, and a shared commitment to public value. This new strategic contract reflects that trust and strengthens our role in supporting the Mining Remediation Authority’s digital evolution, from day-to-day operations to long-term transformation.”

Gerry Wildman, Assistant Director Digital and Information of the Mining Remediation Authority, said:
“Our work is vital to keeping people and the environment safe in former mining areas, and reliable digital systems are essential to achieving that. CGI has been a trusted partner for many years, and we’re pleased to continue that relationship following a rigorous and competitive procurement process. This strategic partnership strengthens our capability, resilience and capacity for innovation, ensuring we can continue to evolve and deliver for the communities we serve the Mining Remediation Authority.”
