CGI’s community initiatives improve the well-being of communities through technology and the engagement of the company’s consultants. This year, in response to COVID-19, our programs have been refocused for CGI consultants to propose project ideas and initiatives to specifically support communities throughout the pandemic. Projects receive CGI support in the form of funding, technology, and volunteers.

CGI professionals have implemented a wide range of initiatives across a variety of areas including:

Education

CGI’s adapted STEM from Home program assists anyone responsible for teaching STEM to students in a home environment. Weekly packs focus on all aspects of STEM including coding, environmental sustainability, robotics, and include prizes to be won. These resources are available for download from CGI.com, offering free access to parents, caregivers and educators across communities.

To support online learning, CGI has also donated over 780 laptops to children around the world.

Innovation

Ordo’s payments app, built by CGI, helped to support communities during COVID-19. As well as a new ‘bulk request’ feature, Ordo’s Neighbour2Neighbour functionality has also been helping individuals to buy medicines/groceries for neighbours.

CGI has further shared its technical and business expertise including evaluating a potential treatment for COVID-19 with the world-renowned Montreal Heart Institute, designing and publishing specifications for an easy-to-produce infection protection visor, and supporting accurate symptom data collection via the CGI eID solution.

Volunteering and Donating

As people, businesses and communities navigate the global pandemic, CGI security experts have responded to heightened cybersecurity risks by volunteering their time. Examples include collaborating with the Chamber of Commerce of Montreal Metropolitan (CCMM) to present a COVID-19 impact webinar, forming the coalition ‘We Help Hospitals’ to support Dutch healthcare institutions, and offering virtual awareness lessons, and free mobile game ‘Spoofy’, to parents, teachers and students.

To date, CGI professionals across the world have also donated large quantities of healthcare equipment, including over 336,000 masks or PPE, to those in need.
