The challenge

POLO provides an open ecosystem platform for ports and their customers to share mission-critical port data and -provide a unified service experience. POLO platform can be utilised as a distribution channel for other commercial and non-commercial solutions of VTS and other developers. VTS wanted to understand how to organise its new business platform, given its unique national position and growth opportunities in the Baltic region.

Solutions

The market situation and prospects for the POLOs business plan were analyzed through market data and stakeholder interviews, especially focusing on the Baltic sea. An extensive business modelling tool was built, and the growth business model was created based on current POLO data. Three scenarios with alternative business performance paths were modelled based on observed market trends.

Benefits

Through the work, VTS understands the limits and potential for their selected markets in the Baltic Sea region. POLO team got a financial analysis of the cost structure and scalability of the operations. With the help of the project results, VTS can specify its business focus and set expansion goals for its new platform.
