Bombay, India, September 13, 2019

CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) signed a partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) to support aspiring women entrepreneurs and students through the launch of a programme called Women in Entrepreneurship (WiE). WiE aims to support more than 1,000 women at different stages of their entrepreneurial journey through initiatives such as mentoring, workshops, internships, and funded grants.

The kick-off event featured a panel of women entrepreneurs who graduated from IIT Bombay and shared their challenges and strategies for success. The event also included a keynote message from known writer and mythologist, Devdutt Pattanaik, who highlighted entrepreneurial traits of women in Indian mythology.

Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director for IIT Bombay, applauded the initiative and said, “Women entrepreneurship represents a vast untapped source of innovation, job creation, and economic growth in our country. We are pleased to launch the WiE programme with the support of our corporate partner CGI. I am sure this initiative will continue to gain momentum in years to come as IIT Bombay has a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem with centers, including the Desai Centre for Entrepreneurship (DSCE), SINE, TATA Centre, and Wadhwani Centre for Bioengineering, which we can leverage to help aspiring women entrepreneurs.”

“One of CGI’s strategic goals is to be recognized as a caring and responsible corporate citizen in our communities. We are pleased to collaborate with IIT Bombay for the WiE programme in encouraging and mentoring aspiring women entrepreneurs to benefit the well-being of communities where we live and work,” said George Mattackal, President of CGI’s Asia Pacific Global Delivery Centers of Excellence.

WiE events and workshops will also be open to students and entrepreneurs from outside IIT Bombay. Details of upcoming initiatives and how to join will be available on the WiE webpage (http://www.iitb.ac.in/dsce/wie/).
