Suraj completed his Bachelors in Sociology from Ranchi University and PGDPM from XISS in 1993 and brings 32 years of experience spanning tenures at multinational companies in Sales & Marketing, Manufacturing, Automotive and Aerospace OEMs.
He has done executive roles in business, operations, engineering, quality, human resources, environment health & safety, administration & facilities during his tenure with Bata, Bosch, General Motors and Textron where he was responsible for the entire operations of the company as their Deputy Managing Director and a member of the Board. He was also responsible for managing key customer relationships with Cessna Aircraft & Bell Helicopters amongst the other operations of the group in India.
He has extensive experience reporting to the board of directors and collaborating with internal & external stakeholders across different levels and working cultures having worked with the Americans, French and Germans.
After 18 years in 2011 he joined Airbus India and is currently VP, Head of HR - India & South Asia responsible for the entire HR Operations of the Region of South Asia & Head of Site - Bangalore Operations of Airbus India. As a part of the Senior Leadership Team for the past 14 years, he led the strategic plan formulation, delivered transformation programmes through cross-functional alignment and hands-on execution of key initiatives whilst keeping a focus on developing teams, streamlining processes and running the entire HR department and operations of the Bangalore facilities hosting around 4000 employees.
He brings deep expertise in value creation by leading transformations, managing key accounts, and running the entire operations.
Having lived and worked in Germany and extensively travelled to USA, France, various European and Asian countries and being able to speak multiple languages (English, German, Bengali, Nepali & Hindi), he brings an empathetic leadership style combined with a cultural sensitization and global perspective to the workplace.
Under his leadership Airbus has been conferred with various awards over the years, and he also has been recognized with many awards, few recent ones received in 2024: Most Iconic HR Leader by World HRD Congress, Top 5 DivHERsity Champion - Large Organization by Herkey, Top Allies #2 - 1000 Women Leaders Movement by Jombay, 24 Influential HR Leaders in 2024 by HR Association of India, CHRO Power Listing by Business Innovation Awards, Hall of Fame Award by Asia Pacific HRM Congress and Top HR Icons by Indira Group of Institutions.
He is a life member of NHRD, ISTD and NIPM. Board member of the Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skill Council and various academic institutions. HR advisor for startups both internally and externally. He is a regular speaker at all major B Schools, Seminars, and Conferences on various subjects not limited to HR. Mentor and Jury member to various HR Awards and writes articles on various aspects of HR in journals and magazines.
Happily married with one wife, two daughters (one a Doctor and another an Engineer) and has also been blessed with a grandchild last year and is warm as a person, open and frank and has a great sense of humour.
