Securing, connecting, sustaining: 50 years of commitment to trusted transaction infrastructure
For 50 years, CGI has worked alongside clients in critical industries to help strengthen the systems people rely on every day, with a constant focus on resilience, reliability and long-term performance. In Canada’s payments ecosystem, this story reflects that commitment through CGI’s work with the Canadian Payments Association to support the secure, highly available clearing and settlement infrastructure behind millions of daily financial transactions.
Every day, Canadians withdraw cash, use cheques and debit cards, set up pre-authorized payments and complete other transactions that require one financial institution to settle funds with another. At the time of this case study, the Canadian Payments Association was clearing and settling an average of $173 billion daily, making its systems a vital part of Canada’s financial services industry.
To help meet that responsibility, CGI contributed to develop an IT infrastructure and network architecture designed to support the organization’s stringent availability requirements. CGI also supported its client in operating the mainframe systems and managing network connections between participating financial institutions. Through its infrastructure services network, CGI helped implement business continuity measures to ensure continued operations in the event of an incident at the main processing centre.
Supported by a strong technology foundation and effective operations management, the Canadian Payments Association was able to maintain reliable, efficient and secure clearing and settlement services while continuing to introduce new services based on leading payment technology.
