For 50 years, CGI has worked alongside clients to modernize critical systems, strengthen resilience and turn technology change into business progress. In payments, this story reflects that commitment through CGI’s work with Interac to help modernize its platform, improve operational consistency and build a stronger foundation for future scale.

Interac, a global payments leader handling billions of dollars in transactions each year, needed more than a routine technology upgrade. With legacy systems creating growing challenges and a core hardware platform nearing end of support, the organization needed a path forward that would support modernization, resilience and long-term scalability. CGI brought that work forward through a trusted relationship built over 15 years.

CGI began by assessing Interac’s existing environment and identifying infrastructure and application gaps, as well as opportunities to improve consistency across environments. From there, the work moved toward a cloud-centered approach designed to support application modernization at speed. Because a public cloud model was not the right fit, CGI evaluated private cloud options and selected Microsoft Azure Stack Hub, together with HashiCorp Terraform, to automate provisioning and operational tasks.

The modernization effort also introduced new delivery models designed to improve support, responsiveness and operational excellence. As the environment became more automated and standardized, Interac gained a more modern, secure and scalable platform. CGI’s work helped pave the way for future cloud adoption and gave Interac the ability to implement, test and run new features more quickly to address customer needs.

 

Resilience

 

Resilience was a central priority throughout the engagement. In a highly regulated payments environment where availability is critical, CGI helped improve consistency and speed to delivery through automation and modern architecture. The result was a major shift in provisioning time: what had previously taken six months or more could now be completed in minutes. CGI also helped strengthen recoverability through software-defined environments and continued to guide Interac in aligning immediate needs with future modernization goals.
