Listening, learning, connecting: 50 years of commitment to inclusive digital opportunity
For 50 years, CGI has believed that technology and education can open doors when grounded in partnership and respect. Across Indigenous communities in Canada, CGI Partners collaborate with educators and community organizations to encourage Indigenous students to explore technology, higher education and future careers in ways that honour their cultures, knowledge and ways of learning.
Through STEM@CGI, CGI Partners have delivered hands-on artificial intelligence and coding workshops with schools such as École Nikanik in Wemotaci, Quebec. Activities involving Ozobots, drones and other technologies help make digital learning practical and engaging.
In collaboration with Cap Campus and the New Pathways Foundation, CGI has also welcomed Indigenous students to its Montréal office for STEM activities, workplace tours and opportunities to explore careers in technology. These experiences are shaped through listening and reciprocal learning, helping CGI Partners create activities that are relevant to participating students and communities.
In Alberta, CGI works with the Alexander First Nation to deliver monthly STEM classes for K–12 students at the Kipohtakaw Education Centre. CGI has also provided technology and learning resources to help students bring their ideas to life and consider future studies in information technology.
By building relationships and creating space for different perspectives, these programs help Indigenous students see how their ideas, identities and experiences can contribute to the future of STEM.
