Assessing, prioritizing, transforming: 50 years of commitment to helping clients build more sustainable operations
For 50 years, CGI has worked alongside clients across industries to help turn complex challenges into measurable progress, with a constant focus on creating long-term value. In the technology and entertainment sector, this story reflects that commitment through CGI’s work with Ubisoft to strengthen its Green IT strategy and identify practical ways to reduce the environmental impact of digital operations.
With the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, Ubisoft chose CGI as a strategic partner to assess the maturity of its Green IT program and identify opportunities to take its strategy further. As digital technologies continue to increase their environmental footprint, Green IT has become an important focus for organizations looking to reduce emissions and improve the sustainability of digital services and equipment.
CGI worked with Ubisoft to evaluate the maturity of its Green IT initiatives through a structured assessment based on a framework developed by CGI’s Digital Innovation Center in France. The work included workshops led by CGI business consulting experts and an analysis of four key areas: strategy and governance, communication and training, digital equipment lifecycle, and digital services lifecycle.
The assessment resulted in more than 15 recommendations, with priority placed on actions that could help reduce costs and mitigate environmental and social impacts. These included recommendations related to lifecycle assessment, certifications, policies and standards, data governance, and eco-design of digital services.
CGI’s assessment found that Ubisoft had already built a relatively mature Green IT strategy, with a score of 68% based on implemented best practices. The work helped Ubisoft clarify its strengths, identify opportunities for improvement, and better define the steps needed to reinforce its Green IT priorities across studios and business lines.
