Rich Hampshire has more than 30 years of experience in the utilities sector, specializing in competitive energy markets, energy services, smart meters, and smart grids. He is active in the leadership of a numerous industry associations, including serving as chair of the SmarterUK Energy and Utilities Board and as a member of the SmarterUK Advisory Council. He also is a founding member of the Smart Grids GB.
In addition, Rich represents CGI on the Council of the Digital Policy Alliance, sits on the executive board of a parliamentary policy forum, and serves on the implementation board for Each Home Counts. Further, he delivered BEIS’s Bonfield Review recommendations on energy efficiency, chairing the organization’s Data Ethics group and Quality Mark Finance sub-group.
Rich is a regular speaker at utility events and the author of numerous papers and articles on smart meters and grids, energy security and privacy, and sustainable energy systems. These include Beyond Smart – Generating: The Demand-Side Flexibility Opportunity for British Energy, a white paper cited recently in the Committee on Climate Change report on Behaviour Change, Public Engagement and Net Zero, and the very popular Energy Flexibility For Dummies book. Rich also is the driving force behind CGI’s energy flexibility research in collaboration with Utility Week.
With a background in engineering, Rich has spent his career working with organizations to implement transformation initiatives.
