Learning, mentoring, empowering: 50 years of commitment to developing future digital talent
For 50 years, CGI has worked alongside communities to inspire and mentor youth to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and IT-related professions. In Montréal, that commitment took shape through CGI’s first local STEM Camp, where students explored technology and innovation with mentors from around the world.
In 2018, CGI hosted its first STEM Camp in Montréal as part of STEM@CGI, a global initiative designed to introduce young people to technology and other careers grounded in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The event coincided with CGI’s Leadership Conference, giving students the opportunity to learn from CGI mentors representing 15 countries and a broad range of experiences.
Through hands-on activities involving Raspberry Pi and improvisation, students explored concepts related to coding, computer engineering, innovative thinking and business consulting. The experience helped connect technical learning with creativity, collaboration and practical problem-solving.
The Montréal camp formed part of CGI’s broader commitment to supporting youth from different backgrounds through STEM camps, mentorship opportunities and training programs. These initiatives aim to build interest in technology careers while helping develop the diverse digital workforce needed for the future.
By bringing global mentors and hands-on learning together, the camp gave students an opportunity to see how curiosity and creativity can open the door to a future in technology.
