CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) has been awarded a contract to provide North Wales Police with managed ICT and related business services. The initial contract is valued at £17.8 million for five years, with options to extend within the overall framework. The relationship with CGI will enable North Wales Police to maximise efficiencies in ICT service delivery, releasing £3.5 million savings over the term, whilst leveraging technology assets and innovation to support transformation of operational activities.

North Wales Police already has a reputation as an innovator in the use of ICT, mobile services and outsourcing.  CGI will be responsible for taking ICT services forward, designing and operating a modern infrastructure and working closely with the client team to design and manage an ongoing transformation programme.  CGI’s services and systems integration expertise will assist North Wales Police in the achievement of relevant operational and financial objectives.

“There are major benefits that North Wales Police will gain from more effective use of their IT infrastructure. Our services will support them in becoming one of the most advanced and IT-enabled police forces in the UK,” said Steve Thorn, SVP CGI Public Sector UK.

CGI’s solution will utilise its security accredited 5 star award-winning service facilities to provide comprehensive support for police officers and staff. The service will encompass and manage a secure ICT infrastructure estate, desktop and mobile environments, networks, business and technical applications. CGI will also provide third party supplier management expertise to ensure that North Wales Police can benefit from a choice of industry innovators as its use of ICT evolves. Data and systems security assurance will be planned, managed and transformed in collaboration with the Police and CGI’s Cyber Security teams in accordance with the security management framework and government requirements.

As well as delivering operational efficiencies for North Wales Police, an important element of the programme will be community engagement with schools in North Wales. This initiative fits into CGI’s existing corporate social responsibility programme to promote greater understanding of ICT and its relevance and potential for students.
