CGI to open IT center of excellence in Athens, Ohio
Center expands CGI commitment to state and will add 150 new technology jobs over the next three years
CGI Group Inc. (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A), a leading provider of information technology and business process services, today announced it will establish an information technology center of excellence in Athens, Ohio, in January 2013. The center will employ 150 IT professionals over the next three years, expanding CGI’s footprint in Ohio to 600 employees and boosting regional economic development. The company will begin recruiting for the new center this fall, targeting both experienced IT professionals and college graduates, including veterans and military family members.
The new CGI Ohio Onshore Center of Excellence will extend CGI’s capabilities to support both government and commercial enterprises in Ohio, the Midwest and the nation. Services will include application development, maintenance, testing, support and integration. The center will be located at the Stateside Technology Park and employ software developers, IT specialists and business analysts. The new center is also made possible by economic development incentives at the state and local level including the Ohio Job Creation Tax Credit approved today by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority.
“CGI’s new Ohio Onshore Center of Excellence underscores our long-term commitment to the state,” said Pete Ihrig, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, CGI. “We look forward to expanding our presence and capabilities through strong partnerships with JobsOhio and the Athens County Economic Development Council, as well as local institutions of higher learning like Ohio University and Hocking College.”
“Ohio’s growing technology sector is a magnet for companies such as CGI that benefit from access to a well-trained IT workforce and strong business environment,” said Mark D. Kvamme, President and Interim Chief Investment Officer for JobsOhio, the private, nonprofit corporation leading Ohio’s job creation efforts. “We are excited about CGI’s commitment to Ohio and look forward to helping in their continued success.
“This is a great opportunity for Athens,” said Sara Marrs, Director, Athens County Economic Development Council, a public-private partnership committed to increasing economic opportunity. “CGI’s new Ohio onshore center will help diversify our economic base, give our college grads more opportunities to live locally, and give businesses throughout the U.S. the ability to source more IT work in America’s heartland.”
