With malware, ransomware and phishing attacks posing significant challenges to many organizations, our UK Cyber Security team has turned learning about online security risks into a fun and interactive experience called the CGI Cyber Escape.

Built in June 2021 within a shipping container and designed with safety in mind, the Cyber Escape experience helps students and business people better understand cybersecurity risks and learn how to reduce the impact of a cyberattack. The experience complements existing security awareness training. In conjunction with STEM@CGI, the experience has been specially tailored for younger students, too.

When experiencing Cyber Escape, small teams work together to uncover clues, solve puzzles and accomplish cyber-related tasks to successfully escape before time runs out. Along the way, participants learn critical skills like protecting data privacy, creating strong passwords, safely navigating social media, and improving physical security, device and document handling.

“OMG, I thoroughly enjoyed my Escape Room experience at Kenmay Academy this afternoon, what a wonderful opportunity for learners to develop excellent skills for life, learning and work – thanks for the invitation!”

Laurence Findlay, Director of Education and Children’s Services at Aberdeenshire Council

Richard Holmes, Senior Vice-President of Cyber Security for CGI in the UK says, "Regardless of whether we’re a student or a business leader, we spend much of our personal and professional lives online. It’s vital that everyone knows how to practice safe cyber techniques and continue to hone our existing skills.

"The Cyber Escape experience showcases the easy ways we can protect ourselves from a number of very real online dangers. While we may live in a highly computer literate world, the number of data breaches and Internet scams we see in the news would suggest that much needs to be done to help people protect themselves in a digital environment. We hope that this experience offers people a real-world opportunity to learn and engage with safe cyber practices in a fun and interactive way.”

The CGI Cyber Escape experience was selected as finalist for the Innovation in Cyber Award 2021 by The National Cyber Awards.  It is traveling around the UK to schools, colleges and businesses. Arrangements also may be made to visit the experience at a CGI location.
