MS SQL Database Administrator
Position Description
Are you ready to get your full data geek on? Join an exiting team of IT professionals. CGI is seeking a DBA to join our rapidly growing Halifax Metro team. We have exciting opportunities for DBAs in our consulting services team in supporting our Public Sector clients in the Province of Nova Scotia and Utilities. The successful candidate will have a strong delivery background.
In the role of DBA, you would work as part of an exciting and dynamic multidisciplinary project team to plan, design, develop and implement comprehensive business and IT solutions in response to client needs. Your knowledge of methods and techniques for operational and project requirements and demonstrated skill in database tuning, data model development, database development techniques and related programming for data acquisition and provisioning is your passion. You work effectively and efficiently, whether you are working independently, or as part of a team. You are adaptable and resourceful, and tailor your approach to fit different organizational cultures. Some 'on call' support is required.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Solid command of SQL and SQL server tools
- Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
- Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling
- PowerShell and Unix shell scripting skills
- Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS
- Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Impeccable attention to detail
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
- Three to five years of experience in database administration, information technology, database architect
- MCSE/MCSA certifications - preferred
- Experience with Linux and Windows Server environments
- Extensive experience with MS SQL in various roles as a DBA, database developer, SQL optimizer, creation and maintenance of triggers and stored procedures
- Experience with other database technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL Oracle, MongoDB) - Preferred
- Experience with cloud services (AWS, Microsoft Azure) - Preferred
OTHER BONUS SKILLS:
- Experience in .Net, JAVA, Python, etc... and related back end development technologies
- Data Warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling and related development
- data analytics processing
- Experience in data hub and a data lake concepts and implementations
