For Vishnuchinnan Pethanan, career growth has always been about staying open to change – and seeing opportunity where others might see uncertainty.
Originally from India, Vishnuchinnan has lived in Finland for 15 years. He began his career working on international technology projects and built strong experience in consultancy roles. After many years in consulting, he decided to explore a different path and moved into a product-based company to gain a new perspective and deepen his product-focused expertise.
Today, he works as an architect, focusing on cloud migration and system modernization. He designs scalable solutions and supports organizations as they move toward modern, cloud-based environments.
Navigating a transition
A few years later, his role transitioned to CGI as part of an outsourcing arrangement.
“At first, it was a mixed feeling,” he recalls. “I had moved away from consultancy, and suddenly I was back.”
However, the transition proved smooth and ultimately rewarding. Being part of CGI opened up broader opportunities for professional development and long-term growth.
“Sometimes change feels uncertain in the beginning, but it can open doors you didn’t even know were there.”
Growing through continuous learning
Being part of CGI brought new development opportunities and structured learning paths.
He has completed architect training, participated in CGI’s AI Learning Path and is currently preparing for further Microsoft certifications. The combination of theory and practical labs has strengthened both his technical expertise and his confidence in applying new technologies in everyday work.
Flexibility and stability
What Vishnuchinnan values most about CGI is the balance between flexibility and stability.
“If something changes in one assignment, there are always new opportunities. I can also influence the kind of work I do. That freedom is something I really enjoy.”
Reflecting on his journey, Vishnuchinnan sees the transition to CGI as a fortunate step that expanded his options rather than limiting them. His advice to others going through a similar change is simple: focus on the bigger picture.
“Have a wider perspective rather than focusing only on the change. There are many opportunities that can open up.”
