Information-Sharing: An Intelligent Approach to Addressing the Opioid Crisis, Wed., Feb. 13, 11:15-11:35 a.m., Brad Schoffstall, CGI Federal & Marcia Conrad-Miller, CGI

In 2017, opioid overdoses accounted for more than 47,000 deaths, more than any previous year on record. For its part in helping to combat the opioid epidemic, the Federal Health Architecture (FHA), an E-Government Line of Business initiative, envisioned both a short-term and long-term solution for accessing and aggregating prescription data from multiple states. In this session, Brad and Marcia will explore the role that data, technology and information-sharing can play in easing the opioid crisis that kills increasing numbers of Americans every year. See more on the HIMSS Lightning Session web page.

Protecting Scarce Medical Dollars Using Social Media Monitoring, Thurs., Feb. 14, 12:15-12:35 p.m., David Ott, CGI Federal

As the healthcare sector continues to make significant investments to develop new ways to combat fraud, waste and abuse, social media has become increasingly prevalent in today’s society. What began as a way to interact with friends and family around the world has become a new marketplace, a new place to share information and ideas, and a massive source of data—arguably becoming more than just “social.” In this session, David will examine solutions that incorporate Social Media Protection Service as a necessary layer of protection in fighting fraud and abuse. The ability to identify, detect and scrub improper activities and impostor identities on social media—in real time and in conjunction with other solutions—not only translates into dollars saved but also reputations protected. See more on the HIMSS Lightning Session web page.
