Due to ongoing growth and success in the province of BC, CGI is seeking an experienced Unix System Administrator to join our world-class IT solution company to fill a permanent full-time role in our Vancouver or Victoria BC office. This role will provide leading information technology services directly to our clients in BC.
As a senior system administrator, you will install, configure and maintain Unix (Sun Solaris) Supercluster, discrete, and other virtualized servers for all production and non-production environments. You will commission new systems, coordinate the networking connectivity and support installation of third party software technologies on the systems. You will be involved in designing, implementing, securing and maintaining of the systems.
As part of day-to-day operations, you will identify and analyze the issues that hamper the performance and capacity of the system, and to work in close coordination with the product support team and recommend the solutions for the issues. You will manage and track user accounts and access and ensure consistency of user privileges. You will assume ownership and manage all scheduled of system jobs and tasks to align with system resources availability and ensure consistency through all production and non-production environments. You will be involved in developing, providing oversight of and reviewing scheduled scripts for application management and system monitoring. You will develop, implement and execute backup, replication, clustering and fail over processes.

Your future duties and responsibilities
Installing new and maintaining existing UNIX/Linux servers (physical and virtual)
Providing input to architecture, designs and implementation of Solaris Supercluster and other discrete and virtual servers
Troubleshooting and resolving technical incidents and complex design and administration problems
Exchanging information with solution vendors to coordinate maintenance work and problem resolution
Taking ownership and devises effective solutions and a plan of action to ensure system performance, availability and to restore services to the customer satisfaction and to service levels
Producing and updating technical documentation
Identifying and implementing initiatives that improve or optimize existing environments or processes
Managing all users and server configurations
Working effectively with internal middleware, hardware, DBA teams and with the client
Providing off-hours on-call support on a rotation basis
Maintaining awareness of trends in regulatory, technology, and operational requirements
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline;
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in similar roles for a large enterprise
Advanced experience in Unix architecture and security
Advanced knowledge and experience of modern virtualization and container technologies and of current best practices (VMWare, Hyper-V, docker etc)
Advanced UNIX/Linux scripts programming skills
Knowledge of and experience in Super Clusters, centralized storage technologies (SANs), ZFS file systems
Understanding of LAN/WAN networking, experience switches, firewalls, etc.
Strong troubleshooting, reasoning and problem solving skills
Team player able to be effective in a collaborative team environment; willing to share knowledge and learn from others
Effectively work in projects through solution development and project management lifecycles
Ability to speak and communicate clearly and effectively in English with both clients and internal organizations
Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation in English
Experience working with deployment automation tools such as Jenkins, Ant, Maven
Knowledge of DNS and LAN/WAN networking
Versed in ITIL framework with preferred ITIL training and/or certification
Highly self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision
Understanding of DevOps and Continuous Integration principles
