Ongoing growth and success in the province of BC has led to CGI seeking an experienced network administrator to join our world-class IT solution company to fill a permanent full-time role in our Vancouver or Victoria BC office. This role will provide leading information technology services directly to our clients in BC. You will realize success in this role by not only understanding the technology but also working collaboratively our client and a team of other administrators and technical analysts.

As a network administrator and architect, you will bring a depth and breadth of network infrastructure knowledge to managing networking components of a complex healthcare IT solution implemented in geographically dispersed data centers.

Your future duties and responsibilities

The Senior Network Administrator will demonstrate superior skills in designing solutions for routing, switching, firewall and load balancing.

This role has responsibility for initial conceptualization and planning to implement a high-availability, fault-tolerant network architecture and then take responsibility for providing its ongoing maintenance. You will collaborate with a highly skilled team to define, document and maintain network architecture standards. Our teams use network management best practices for transaction processing, access, switching, routing, firewalls, load balancing for LAN, WAN and internal datacenter virtual and sub-nets set up through various vendor technologies.

You will understand the client business and technical environment and work closely with the client and other service providers to detect network flaws and troubleshoot inconsistencies and network issues for end-to-end network transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network problems and alerts to address performance, availability, utilization, throughput, and latency
Provide oversight proactively manage network capacity, performance and quality-of-service
Monitor and analyse network traffic and identifying and resolve potential bottleneck and capacity issues
Ensure network security by adhere to security controls and policies and running network security scans
Support product analysts in day-to-day operation and troubleshoot solution issues
Support network enhancement projects, re-architecture and transition to operations
Perform network hardware support including hardware installation and maintenance
Configure and upgrade network hardware and software components
Establish network specifications by analyzing solution requirements, workflow, user and connected systems access, security requirements
Design router configurations including interface configuration and routing protocols and firewall rules
Implement and manage network security certificates
Perform administration of networks including deploying and updating software, managing network components and their operating systems
Plan and execute the installation, configuration, and testing of networking equipment
Participate in defining and providing oversight to adherence of network policies and procedures
Escalate and manage problems to vendors and other network administrators

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
A minimum of five (5) years working experience in the information technology sector
Highly self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision
Experience in network operations, implementation, and a good understanding of LAN, WAN and firewall management methodologies
Solid understanding of switching and routing protocols including STP, VTP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, etc…
Solid knowledge of VPN protocols (IPSEC, SSL, etc…)
Extensive Experience in some or all of the following:
o Cisco Switches (IOS and Nexxus) and Routers, IPT
o Load Balancers (Netscaler, F5)
o Check Point Firewalls/VPN appliances
o Cisco Certifications: CCNA, CCNP or equivalent
o Check Point Certifications: CCSA, CCSE
o Cisco Firewalls (ASA 55XX and Next-Gen) using Command Line Interface (CLI) and Cisco Security Manager (CSM)
Solid knowledge of DNS
UNIX/Linux administration and shell scripting language is an asset
Well versed in ITIL framework with preferred ITIL training and/or certification
Understanding of DevOps and Continuous Integration principles
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
