Continued growth and success in the province of BC has led to CGI seeking an experienced hardware administrator to join our world-class IT solution company to fill a permanent full-time role in our Victoria or Vancouver BC office. This role will provide leading information technology services directly to our clients in BC. You will realize success in this role not only by understanding the technology but also working collaboratively with our client and a team of system and network administrators.

Your future duties and responsibilities
As an experienced hardware administrator, you will join a team of system and network administrators and technical analysts to manage server hardware, firmware and hardware related to networking components of a complex healthcare IT solution that is implemented in geographically dispersed data centers.
You will take responsibility for providing ongoing maintenance of all servers, storage devices and networking hardware, detecting flaws and troubleshooting inconsistencies as well as pinpointing areas of improvement. You will also participate in the initial design, build and implementation of the hardware components. You will ensure that the all the server hardware components work consistently with the installed operating system, middleware, databases and application components and also ensure availability, capacity, and performance services levels as part of overall managed operations services delivery.
Manage and maintain all hardware related to the IT healthcare application infrastructure including servers, routers, switches, firewalls etc.
Assist in the implementation and management of the Unix server environment and connecting network components
Identify, isolate and troubleshoot issues and escalate defects to resolution with third party service providers
Coordinate hardware RMA activities with third party service providers and resolve issues to meet service levels
Execute patches and upgrades for firmware, drivers and supercluster as applicable
Implement hardware monitoring agents and attend to alerts and events as required
Monitor server and storage capacity and recommend optimization steps as required
Execute and support day-to-day operation delivery responsibilities such as server backups, recovery data backups etc.
Ensure and report on facilities security of the physical environments and servers as require
Manage configurations of server and networking hardware components as necessary
Work closely with application teams for day to day support issues, break/fix issues, and scheduled maintenance
Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and implementation
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
A minimum of five (5) years working experience in the information technology sector
Highly self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision
Experience with SUN Solaris and Oracle Supercluster hardware and firmware
Understanding of virtualization technologies such as hypervisors, virtual servers, containers, zones, LDOMs
Experience managing operation of high volume transaction processing systems
Experience managing operation and security of interconnected network devices for LAN, WAN, DMZs, security protocols (SSL/TLS) and communication protocols (http/https, TCP/IP)
Experience managing hardware operating technologies including: Linux, JEE application, WebLogic, Fusion Middleware (OHS, SOA, WLS, Coherence, OSB), Oracle Database, JMS, JDK, ZFS, Oracle Data Guard
Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager and/or other system monitoring tools, such as Splunk
Experience with ITSM supporting tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Subversion, GIT, XRay, CMDB
Familiarity with principles of project management, application development lifecycle management and software development and release
Well versed in ITIL framework with preferred ITIL training and/or certification
Understanding of DevOps and Continuous Integration principles
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
