GSMA nominates Enexis, BroadForward and CGI in the Best Mobile Technology category for the Global Mobile Awards 2016

Rotterdam, January 21, 2016 –

GSMA (Groupe Speciale Mobile Association), a special interest organization for mobile operators worldwide, has nominated Enexis, BroadForward and CGI for the Global Mobile Awards in the category for "Best Solution for Growing Smaller or Independent Networks.” The three parties are in the running for the award for their launch of the world’s first private virtual network operator (PVNO). Businesses and public institutions that use a great deal of M2M and mobile data connections can now become owners of SIM cards. This means that from now on, they can easily switch telecom providers and add services to their SIM card, without having to ask for their operator’s permission. The winners will be announced on February 23, 2016 during the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.

CGI recently worked with software supplier BroadForward to develop a solution that frees energy companies from dependency on a single supplier for their mobile communication needs. The solution lets energy companies easily switch to a different telecom provider without replacing millions of customer SIM cards. Grid manager Enexis is the first private network operator to make use of CGI’s service.

“We are very proud that we have been nominated, together with Enexis and BroadForward, for the Best Mobile Technology Award. CGI was able to put its proven mobile experience into developing this solution. With the world’s first PVNO, organizations that use a lot of M2M and mobile data connections can operate flexibly and cost-efficiently.”

Ron de Mos, Senior Vice President and General Manager of CGI Netherlands.

“This is an important development for utility companies like Enexis, who are rolling out large numbers of smart meters, using 2G and 4G technology between now and 2020. We are therefore very happy with our private mobile operator solution. It ensures a healthy market situation and shows the daring and innovative strength of all the parties involved in its realization.”
