According to the World Health Organization, approximately 15% of the world's population lives with some form of disability. This includes physical disabilities, chronic illnesses, behavioral disorders, cognitive deficiencies, and sensory disabilities.
CGI’s France operations are bridging the gap between people with disabilities and the IT industry through our offering Handi-Ready.
When clients select Handi-Ready for their project, CGI co-contracts with a firm that hires people with disabilities and provides the necessary IT training to integrate them into the client’s project alongside the CGI professionals. The offering is advantageous for all—the professionals completing the work learn new skills to kick-start their IT careers, while clients and CGI fulfill their legal obligation to hire individuals with disabilities and have the opportunity to hire talented individuals from Handi-Ready projects full-time.
To combat stigmas surrounding disabilities, French law mandates that companies with more than 20 employees employ enough people with disabilities to equal 6% of their workforce or pay an annual fee of €6,000 (CA$9,000) per individual under that percentage.
