Top trends
According to client insights, utilities executives are accelerating digital initiatives to enable deep transformation and lead in operational excellence. At the same time, assuring regulatory compliance, protecting the enterprise, optimizing investments, and connecting devices and assets continue to be top of mind.
Looking ahead, executives cite changing business and operating models as the top emerging trend to watch, as utilities look to distributed energy resources (DERs) to transition to a smarter grid.
Investing for innovation
With utility executives recognizing the importance of data, analytics continues to grow as an IT priority year-on-year, rising from 37% in 2015. Across both business and IT executives, data and cybersecurity are rising in investment priority as well, in clear recognition of the importance of the digital customer experience.
