London, United-Kingdom, May 11, 2015

CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) has been awarded a contract to provide information and communications technology (ICT) services to Highways England (formerly The Highways Agency). The three-year end user computing services contract will support Highways England through a major IT refresh and its transition from a government agency within the UK Department for Transport to a government-owned company. CGI will provide end user computing services through a collaborative ICT model for over 3,500 Highways England staff.

The Highways England contract with CGI will enable it to further benefit from disaggregated ICT services, providing greater flexibility to facilitate the modernisation of its ICT infrastructure.

The new end user computing services model implemented by CGI will improve business agility, mobility and security, allowing Highways England to adopt a range of mobile devices such as secure laptops and tablets. The solution will be supported 24x7 by CGI’s five-star award-winning service desk, Secure Government Cloud Infrastructure and Secure Operations Centre (SOC).

Highways England handles over 20,000 road incidents a month and is responsible for maintaining England’s Strategic Road Network (SRN) to ensure the smooth running of road traffic.

“We are delighted to have been awarded this strategic contract with Highways England, which will take advantage of our experience in modernising other public sector clients’ systems and delivering stable, secure end user computing systems,” said Steve Thorn, Senior Vice-President, CGI Public Sector, UK. “This contract is further evidence of transport authorities in the UK turning to CGI to manage their core infrastructures,” he added.

About Highways England

Formerly the Highways Agency, Highways England is the new government company charged with operating England’s motorways and major A roads. This includes modernising and maintaining the highways. It also manages - and helps prevent - incidents on England’s motorways through its Traffic Officer service.
Highways England manage the same road network as the Highways Agency. This network is around 4,300 miles long and is made up of motorways and trunk roads.
Whilst the Highways England network represents only 2 per cent of all roads in England by length, it carries a third of all traffic by mileage - and two thirds of all heavy goods traffic, making it the economic backbone of the country.
