Open Government: Transparency, Participation, Collaboration

Web-based Information Visualization

With the Open Government Directive and the launch of data-driven sites like Data.gov and the IT Dashboard, making government data available to citizens is a major priority for all federal agencies. These and other sites like Medicare.gov, not only make data accessible, but do so in a user friendly, visual format. For example, the Medicare.gov Hospital Compare and Nursing Home Compare tools "mash up" geographical data from Google maps with healthcare provider quality-of-care information collected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Thus, users can locate and assess health care facilities near them or their loved ones. The Home Health Compare and Dialysis Facilities tools also allow beneficiaries to evaluate service providers based on quality measures.

Leveraging our work on such tools as Hospital Compare, CGI helps agencies apply their high-value data sets, in combination with other public sector or commercially available data sets, to deliver mission information on the web with broader context. Information is delivered in user-friendly visual web formats, such as mash-ups and analytically-driven 3D visuals.
